Welcoming Spring
If you asked me to rank my favorite seasons, I would easily say fall, winter, summer, then spring. I am a cold-weather person, with a special love for fall and an appreciation for summertime weather, when I’m at the beach.
However, something I admire about springtime is that it feels like a fresh start. A fresh start means something different to every person, but I like to use this time of year to refresh various aspects of my life. I like to think that each of these tasks makes a difference in my life, so I want to share some of them with you, so we can both have a nice start to the season!
Lily’s Guide to a Spring Refresh - A Fresh Start
1. Clean out your closet!
Spring is a transitional time for clothing and the perfect time to slowly bring out warm-weather clothes. Alongside bringing out new pieces, I always go through all my clothing pieces and create piles based on whether I want to keep, donate, or throw away the items, depending on their condition. For me, the easiest way to do this is to remove every single item from my closet, which is a time-consuming process but is so rewarding in the end. After I have a good idea of the clothing items I am keeping, I rearrange my clothes to have my warmer weather clothes in the front, with sweaters and other outerwear and put my cold weather items towards the back.
I always repurchase certain items this time of year as well, to prepare for the coming months, like socks, denim, sweaters, etc.
2. Go through your phone!
Every couple of months, I like to go through my social media apps, email, and photos and clear out things that do not benefit me in any way. Whether that be people I follow on Instagram, email subscriptions, apps, or old photos. I like to call it “cleansing” out my phone and I would highly recommend anyone do this to remove unwanted items on a device and to refresh your phone (and hopefully free up storage).
3. Set the tone for the season…
At the start of every season, I do three things to set a good tone for the next few months and to make sure I am entering each season with a good mindset. First, I go on Pinterest to create a board filled with photos that I feel represent the season. For example, in my spring board I have outfits I want to recreate, foods I want to try, activities I want to do, plus any photos I like in general.

Next, I create a Spotify playlist filled with songs that remind me of the season. I typically listen to specific artists during different seasons, and the ones I listen to most during spring are Mac DeMarco, SZA, Daniel Caesar, and Mac Miller, among many others. I add to the playlist throughout the months of the season and typically select 50-70 songs to make up the entire playlist.

I also love to pick out books and movies to read during the season. Some of my movie recommendations for this spring include La La Land, Lady Bird, Notting Hill, 10 Things I Hate About You, and A Bronx Tale. In terms of books, I am still finding ones I want to read, but I am currently finishing up “The Godfather,” which is the book that inspired both films and I have not been able to put it down since I bought it in New York last month.
What I love about doing these tasks is that they are entirely personalized to the person completing them, meaning you are essentially curating how you want your season to look.
I’m no expert, but the key to success is preparation, and if you do all (or one) of these things, I’d say that you’re destined to have a near-perfect spring season!
